“The cure for boredom is curiosity, there is no cure for curiosity”

This month’s bearblog carnival topic given by Winther is boredom!

Whenever I was bored as a kid, my mom would always tell me: “intelligent people don’t get bored”. Well, that’s not true at all, but I know why she said that. She wanted me to be more self-sufficient, or she didn’t bother to care.

Cambridge dictionary defines bored as: “feeling unhappy because something is not interesting or because you have nothing to do.”

I agree with this definition, but I would also add “feeling lost”. Because what happens when you’re bored? You’re sad, apathetic even. Your mind wanders and yearns for something to do.

However, I am in the same situation as George. I don’t remember when I was truly bored. I get bored of movies, activities, but I don’t even use the word „boring”. I just say the movie or the thing is not interesting.

But back to the issue of never getting bored.

My daily social media screen time averages probably around 30minutes a day. However, I watch YouTube for an average of 2h a day, and if I’m not watching it actively, I put playing it in the background, I lay down and listen. This leads to me being never bored, because if I’m not busy with studying or errands, rest (without any distractions like music or videos playing) feels productive and not boring.

Also, I’m very observant. I love my trait, I love observing. It contributes to why I never feel truly bored. If you’re at the restaurant with me, feel seen. I see you, and I judge.

Same as George, I sometimes come to the realisation that my own mind is slowly rotting away. Always consuming some content, leads to the dwindling of my mind. That was one of the reasons to start this blog. To find my own thoughts again. Not only to sort other’s opinions between I agree and I disagree.

Always having content to watch in your pocket facilitates the demise of your own thoughts. Put your fucking phone down when you’re commuting or waiting in the queue for longer than 10 seconds. Find yourself more often.
